The climbing area was established by the German Alpine Club and IG Klettern in a former quarry in the town of Warstein. Several rock faces offer a variety of climbing routes suitable for both sport and alpine climbers, as well as active families and beginners. The difficulty levels of the routes range from grade 3 to grade 9. The Hillenberg is divided into the following wall sections: Wästerwand, Goldgräberwand, Hillenbergwand, Essener Wand, and Brauereifels. Information about the routes can be found in the “Kletterarena Hillenberg” brochure, which is available for download at www.kletterarena.info.

On weekdays (Monday through Friday), climbing is not permitted until 12:00 p.m. due to blasting that may take place in the neighboring quarry in the morning.
